What is a requel?

A requel is a type of film or TV series that acts as both a sequel and a reboot of an existing franchise. It combines elements of a sequel (continuing the story of the original work) with elements of a reboot (reimagining or retelling the story with a new perspective).

Requels are often created when filmmakers want to bring back a popular franchise but also introduce new ideas or appeal to a new audience. By combining the familiarity of the original work with fresh storytelling or updated visuals, requels can bridge the gap between old and new fans.

Examples of requels include "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which continues the story of the original trilogy while introducing new characters and plot lines, and "Jurassic World," which revitalizes the "Jurassic Park" franchise with new dinosaurs and a different setting.
